Join us for a 3 part series on stress & relaxation, sleep hygiene and the cognitive triangle led by Ilvy Goossens, a psychology PhD student/trainee . Feel free to join one or all 3 sessions.
This talk will help you identify and understand stress, review the benefits of relaxation, and invite you to try out different relaxation practices. The goal is to offer you a way to manage your stress level in a healthier and more sustained way. Finally, some pitfalls to a sustained relaxation practice and free resources for continued relaxation will be reviewed.
Having trouble sleeping? In this talk, we will review what a “good night’s sleep” consists of, examine factors that inhibit (healthy) sleep, and review a few practices and behaviours that promote healthy sleep. The session will end by reviewing common pitfalls for making progress with your sleep hygiene and offer several tips to help you engage in healthy sleeping habits.
Many times, our mind is on autopilot: reacting to a situation in a default mode without ‘proofing’ our response. While helpful for rote tasks, autopilot is not a good navigator for life. The ‘Cognitive Triangle’ is a helpful tool to analyse our reactions in terms of thoughts, emotions and behaviours, and understand the ways they are connected to each other. The goal is for you to learn about the cognitive triangle, become aware of how thoughts, feelings and behaviours mutually influence each other, and increase your awareness about how you may change things.
