Join us for a 2 day session - held on Pro D days! - where you can learn how coding works. This program is geared to girls in Grades 6 to 9.

You are invited to code with Hackergal! With women vastly underrepresented in the STEM industries, Hackergal strives to close the gender gap and inspire a new wave of Canadian female coders as a collective movement to build a more inclusive future! There are lots of free webinars and online events to help you get started and go further. We’ll help you learn the basics and code your first interactive project! Hackergal has launched Hackergal Hub, a free online learning portal! Some of the new features include self-paced learner lessons, tracking learner progress, and interactive note-taking to support learning virtually.

Intro to Code (1hr.) - Beginner

In this webinar, learners will be introduced to the basics of text-based coding in Lynx in a fun and interactive way. Throughout this 1-hour webinar, we’ll explore sample projects and we’ll teach students how to execute the basic commands to help get their coding skills up and started! They will be invited to create their own ‘Meet the Developer’ project as this session.

Creativity with Code  (1hr.) - Intermediate

Building on the previous topic, this webinar allows learners to have fun coding exciting features that will make projects, stories and games interactive! Going beyond the basics, this webinar will show learners how to program turtle movement, custom sounds/music, and buttons to give your users choice over what happens. Just like apps and websites, we’ll explore how exploring “onclick” can make your ideas come to life!
