It only takes a moment to find yourself in an emergency. Join locals Cathalynn Labonté-Smith and Annette Poitras as they share stories of search and rescue as both observers and participants.

Are you prepared for an emergency every time you leave the house? What about in the woods? It only takes one moment to find yourself in an emergency in the wilderness, lost or injured. But what happens when you do? Join us to hear from two local authors as they discuss the extraordinary work search and rescue teams do to pull people out of emergency situations. In her book Rescue Me: Behind the Scenes of Search and Rescue Vancouver based Author Cathalynn Labonté-Smith shares real-life stories as told by volunteer members of Search and Rescue teams, who find the lost and rescue the injured in the most extreme conditions and situations the wilds of North America throw at them. A featured story in Rescue Me is about the disappearance of Coquitlam native Annette Poitras in 2017. In the book about her experience, Annette Poitras discusses the real story of her harrowing disappearance and rescue in her book Three-Dog Nights: The Search and Rescue of Annette Poitras. Registration is requested, but feel free to drop in as well. Refreshments will be provided.
