What is Linux? Why would I want it? How can I get it? Discover the answers with instructor Bob Bates, who will provide an introduction and demonstration of the open-source OS.
Linux is a free and open-source operating system that runs on a variety of hardware such as desktops, laptops, servers and embedded systems (like routers). Linux runs on current hardware, but also operates well on previous generation devices, giving new life to older computers.
Most Linux distributions include a comprehensive suite of software to get you running “out-of-the-box." Additional software is available and easily installed. Linux has a variety of graphic user interfaces (GUI) that allow you to use familiar computer skills.
Bob's presentation will touch on how to obtain Linux, how it's different from Windows and Mac operating systems, and how to go about installing it.
