Visit by B.C. author Rebecca Wood Barrett, who wrote My Best Friend is Extinct.
Have you ever found a friend in an unusual place? In My Best Friend is Extinct, ten-year-old Henry Springs discovers and befriends a strange creature that is seriously injured. While he nurses him back to health he discovers the creature is not the only unusual beast lurking in the neighbourhood. This is a story about friendship, bullying, finding your true self, and discovering animals believed to be extinct. Find out where Rebecca's ideas originated, and how prehistoric creatures like the short-faced bear and sabre-tooth tiger roamed our lands a mere 10,000 years ago. She'll describe her creative writing methods, how the book evolved, and the editing process through multiple drafts with her writers group, editor and illustrator.
